Health insurance giant Aetna just showed the American people exactly why letting massive corporations have control over our health care system is so dangerous.
Aetna suddenly announced that it will pull out of Obamacare exchanges in 11 states -- and they're doing it to try to manipulate the Department of Justice into approving a merger that would result in big profits for them and higher costs for everyone else.
On Tuesday, Bernie Sanders released a statement slamming Aetna's greedy move, and promising to fight back during the next session of Congress:
"In my view, the provision of health care cannot continue to be dependent upon the whims and market projections of large private insurance companies whose only goal is to make as much profit as possible. That is why we need to join every other major country on earth and guarantee health care to all as a right, not a privilege.
That is also why we need to pass a Medicare-for-all single-payer system. I will reintroduce legislation to do that in the next session of Congress, hopefully as part of the Democratic Senate majority."
We agree with Bernie -- our health care is too important to be dependent on the whims and profits of corporate America. We need a health care system that works for everyone, not just the insurance companies. And we can have one, IF Democratic candidates campaign on making health care a right by implementing Medicare-for-all.
Ask Democratic candidates for Congress to support Bernie's Medicare-for-all single-payer system now.
