We all breathed a sigh of relief when Bernie Sanders was appointed to the House-Senate budget conference committee. One reason was that we know Bernie is one progressive we can count on to protect average Americans from a worrisome conservative trend of blaming low-income and needy Americans for budget deficits. And here is Bernie at his best: combining his knowledge of America's historical rates of poverty, our recent (very) costly wars, and periods when we've most effectively balanced our budget to deliver a powerful, straightforward message to his fellow committee members that you WON'T want to miss.

At one point, they try to keep him quiet, but he persists, telling them to keep their priorities with the American people: "As we move forward... you gotta remember that fact as well." You tell 'em, Bernie. We wish all of our politicians would think like this... all the time.
