Sen. Warren Slams Social Security Cuts: Not An American Value to Decide "Who Among Us Is Left To Starve."

There should be no cuts to Social Security. Period.

Warren begins this powerful floor speech by addressing a recent Washington Post editorial that mocked the idea of a looming retirement crisis. She slams the publication for ignoring the millions of Americans who have nothing to fall back on and for framing the choice as one between "more children in poverty" versus "more seniors in poverty."

"The suggestion that we have become a country where those living in poverty fight each other for a handful of curmbs tossed off the tables of the very wealthy is fundamentally wrong," she argues. "This is about our values, and our values tell us that we don't build a future by deciding first who among us will be left to starve."

The speech is spot-on: Warren goes on the explain why the false choice presented in the Washington Post piece was so incorrect; how Social Security will remain solvent for many years to come; and why subjecting our seniors to poverty is terrible policy.
