Hillary Clinton won the presidential election -- but because of the Electoral College, Donald Trump will be sworn in as president.
Since 1992, Democrats have won the popular vote in every election except 2004. But in 2000, George W. Bush was inaugurated as president because of the Electoral College (and the Supreme Court). Here in 2016, it's happened again. And the consequences will surely be much worse.
This has to stop. It's time to end the undemocratic, racist Electoral College for good. And there's already a movement to do just that. Democracy for America has been a longtime supporter of National Popular Vote: the plan that would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Ten states and the District of Columbia have already embraced the National Popular Vote. Will you help grow the movement? Join DFA and sign the petition to end the Electoral College and elect the president by popular vote.
